"Non Narrative Drawings" is a 2023 collection by Inês M. de Freitas that challenges the viewer to engage with abstract interpretations of reality. Each piece begins with a foundation rooted in natural or real elements, which are then translated through photography and recontextualized into the realm of fine art. The series, organized like fragments of speech, invites the viewer to complete the narrative, provoking speculation and introspection. The drawings, rendered on 100% cotton canvas with a wood frame finished in black, embody a minimalist yet profound exploration of the space between reality and abstraction.

Artist's Message

In this collection, I sought to strip down the complexity of narrative to its bare essentials, allowing the viewer to project their own stories onto the canvas. The incomplete forms and fragmented speech within each piece are intentional, designed to evoke curiosity and a deeper engagement with the subject matter. My goal was to create art that is as much about what is left unsaid as what is visually present.
